Inks and Threads

 Olá, I am Jô and I was born in Brazil. Me and my family made Germany our home. We live near Lübeck. 

 I studied Social Communication and graduated in 1996.  I went to work professionally at a large advertising agency, where I had the experience of creating texts and commercials for TV and newspapers. Even working in the creative sector, I always resisted the idea of ​​letting go artistically. My artistic efforts were not with much enthusiasm. I still had many questions in my head and decided to enroll in another University, this time in Social Sciences (anthropology, sociology and politics) and gradueted in 2001. After graduation, I  learned Art History, Philosophy and Embroidery. 

Living in Copacabana and Botafogo, I came into contact with different artists and attended several Music and Arts Gathering   that stimulated my creativity and the desire to make art. And when I moved to another country, I felt the vital necessity to express myself artistically. So I embraced Art, freeing myself on a deep and personal level.

 My work has two extremes, two directions. On one side is my fascination with extraterrestrial regions, mythological beings, portals, elves and magic. On the other side is my need to move towards the earth, the feminine, its feelings, bodies and its spaces in contemporary society. This has made me my own muse for creating bodies, hair, skin tones and other particularities. Currently, my new artistic program gives me reasons to believe that I am on the way to a more organic style, where the embroidery threads cease to be the object or instrument and assume multiple existences, escaping traditional and closed definitions. The future will show.
